YALC ’19 Haul and Wrap Up

As the saying goes, “time flies when you’re having fun” and that was certainly true for YALC this year. I think the wings were flapping twice as fast from day one!

July to December ’19 Pre-Orders

Hello!

It’s time for a pre-order post and I’m super excited by all the books that are being published throughout this second half of the year. They sound absolutely amazing, and I’m nearly willing time to speed up so that I can get my hands on them. I am fine with being patient and waiting, but sometimes it’s impossible and I might be getting a little close to that state right now. It could also be down to the fact YALC is around the corner, but this isn’t the time for that. It’s all about the pre-orders!

January to Mid-July Reading Breakdown ’19

The second half of the year is now upon us and nearly all the book bloggers and BookTubers I know have done the Mid Year Freak Out Tag. I debated doing this too, but it wasn’t really working for me this time round.

Rather than answer all those questions, I wanted to break my reading down into statistics like I would do in my reading journal (if I’d kept it up this year, which I haven’t – oops).

Pages and Co: Tilly and the Book Wanderers

Here’s a book to excite all readers.

Here is a book that I (Sarah) pushed under Emma’s nose and forced her to read because I knew how much she would love it.

Eleven year-old Tilly has lived above her grandparents’ bookshop ever since her mother disappeared shortly after she was born. Like the rest of her family, Tilly loves nothing more than to escape into the pages of her favourite stories.

One day Tilly realises that classic children’s characters are appearing in the shop through the magic of `book wandering’ – crossing over from the page into real life.

With the help of Anne of Green Gables and Alice in Wonderland. Tilly is determined to solve the mystery of what happened to her mother all those years ago, so she bravely steps into the unknown, unsure of what adventure lies ahead and what dangers she may face.

I love this book because it dives into fantasy worlds I also love, like Alice in Wonderland. It was also easy to understand, which was great! With Alice, all the books Tilly and Oskar wander into are vivid and I can see them come to life, as if I was watching them on film. Tilly also reminds me a lot of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, always excited to be in a bookshop or library surrounded by various worlds and magical stories. The rest of the story was fun, exciting, and I liked that it had a happy ending.

It is a book for the dreamers, and people who always want to see their favourite book characters come to life.

I rate it 5 out of 5★

The Most Recent Films I’ve Watched and Loved!

I’m always one to talk about all the books I’ve read and things I’ve crocheted over the months but I rarely talk about film and tv, which is silly as I have a whole category on this blog dedicated to film and tv.

I think as I rarely bother with the huge programmes or take a trip to the cinema for reasons I’ve explained before, it’s not such a huge deal for me. However, I want to break up the pattern a little bit as everything up to now is very book-orientated and it’s nice to have a change.

Book Addiction Book Tag

Hello!

I wasn’t sure whether I was going to do a tag or not, but I found this one over on Ashley’s blog Socially Awkward Bookworm, initially created by Always Trust in Books. It is such a fun tag and one that really gets us thinking about our book habits and how addicted we might be to books. It is certainly my kind of tag and I can’t wait to get into it.

Books Filled With ‘Magic’

As readers of fiction we all love the fact that as soon as we open a new book and read that first line, reality fades and fantasy comes to life. It’s akin to walking under the Main Street Railroad station, turning onto Main Street USA and seeing that Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella castle straight ahead. This is where the magic starts. It is where you feel at home and everything around you is filled with joy, discovery, and excitement. They are also the memories that never fade and which you love to experience time and time again on closing the back cover.
