20 Journal Prompts For Daily Journalling

We all know that bullet journalling is everyone’s go-to method of keeping a journal. If not, it is something we think about trying because it seems fun and it’s a way of adding some creativity and organisation into our day.

I do keep a bullet journal but it is solely dedicated to my books and reading. Having one for day to day tracking and organisation doesn’t work for me so when I talk about keeping a daily journal, which I have done for long time, I mean a hand-written record of thoughts, feelings, things that happened throughout the day et cetera.

When I come to my journal in an evening, sometimes I know what I want to write. The spiralling thoughts are there in my mind waiting to flow through the ink and onto the page. Other times, I have to look at things around me that might prompt a spark of inspiration because I don’t like leaving an empty page for that day.

In the last week or so I’ve stumbled across a couple of blog posts talking about journal writing, prompt ideas, why it is a good habit to maintain, and it has made me think about how I personally use my journal and some prompts I might be inspired to use for myself.

What is a quote you have recently read, heard or seen that inspires you?

Note down 5 positive things that have happened in your day.

What are 5 things you want to accomplish throughout the day?

What challenges you?

If you have read a book or watched a film/tv programme recently, can you imagine yourself in that world? Would you be a main or secondary character?

Do you have any goals or achievements for the coming months?

Make a word cloud in coloured pens. What words stand out? Does the choice of colours mean anything?

What is the weather like outside? How does it make you feel?

If someone painted you a door that, when opened, took you to your dream location, where would it be?

Think about places you would love to visit. List five aspects about them that appeal to you.

What are you grateful for?

What makes you You?

Describe a recent dream you remember.

What do you take away from your favourite book, film or tv programme?

Design your dream home. Describe your decor.

What is one skill you want to learn?

You have a whole day dedicated to self-care? What do you do?

Look back at your first post on your preferred social media platform. What was it? Would you post it now and why? Would you make any changes to it?

With Spring around the corner, what do you like or dislike about the changing seasons?

What is one of your fondest memories? What makes it stand out?

Another thing I like about keeping a journal, writing down thoughts and using prompts is that when I come to write on a WIP there maybe something I’ve already written that I can work into the story: a new character, someone else’s character development, a plot point. It’s a great tool!

If you keep a daily journal, what are some prompts or ideas that inspire and help you?

If not, is it a habit you would like to pick up for yourselves?

As always, thanks for reading and have a brazzle dazzle day!
xx

  1. Some really good prompts here I’ve noted down. I have a journal but I don’t write in it daily, I carry it with me all the time and when I feel I need it to clear up or clarify whatever going on in my mind I feel comforted to know it’s there 🙂
