Africa Inspired Cake and Sugar Paste Flowers

Sarah here to take the spotlight on the blog and I want to share some of the cake design assignments I did as part of my Level 3 Cake Design course last year.

Our first assignment was based on Africa. We had to design the tiers of a cake and the flower decoration on top. The actual cake itself is made of polystyrene but the icing and sugar paste is very real!

For the cake icing I was inspired by African animals, particularly zebras and lions!

The flowers are meant to be Gazanias, a type of daisy from South Africa, which are very bright and colourful!

I chose to make them orange and yellow so they reminded me of the sun!

They’re not perfect as I just started learning how to work with sugar paste but I really liked how they turned out.

Keep an eye out for more flower and cake assignment posts published within the coming weeks!

I can’t wait to share everything else with you!
