It has been a while, but welcome back to Showcase, the series I’m running dedicated to all the temporarily unread and unloved books on my bookshelves. I usually publish these posts at the end of the month but I realised late yesterday evening that I’d forgotten to write and schedule a post for today and these are relatively quick so….
Yeah, a lot of things going on have rendered my organisational skills a little useless at the moment so if posts for the rest of the month are quite haphazard, my apologies.
Anyway, the book on show today is The Queen’s Rising!

“One day, a queen will rise…”
Brienna Colbert knows what it’s like to be an outsider. Cast aside from her family in the northern kingdom of Maevana, she’s been raised in the south. While some are born with a talent got one of five passions – art, music, dramatics, wit and knowledge – Brienna struggles to discover hers until she chooses knowledge, and with it comes a very unusual skill.
When a dangerous plot against the northern kingdom comes to light, Brienna’s passion proves invaluable to a rebellion she never knew existed. Will she choose loyalty to her present or her past? For a queen is destined to rise and reclaim her northern throne, and Brienna might just be the one who holds the key to it all…
A chill danced down my spine as I met Yesult’s gaze. There was a question in her eyes, solemn as it was desperate. Are you certain, Amandine? Are you certain that you desire to do this?
Was I certain that I was brave enough to stand before a corrupt king and speak the name of MacQuinn, a name that would undoubtedly bear a cost? Was I certain that I wanted to stay at Lord Allenach’s castle, knowing my father might be one of his thanes, one of his servants, one of his cronies? Knowing that my heritage was rooted in that land?
But I was ready. Ready to find the stone and redeem my ancestor’s past transgressions. To set a queen upon the throne. To return to Cartier and regain my cloak.
And so I whispered, “Let it be done, Lady.”
This book intrigued me from the off and I can’t wait until I finally get into it. I came across this whilst browsing just after it was published and for a YA fantasy, I’m surprised I didn’t hear more hype about it. I’m usually on the ball when it comes to fantasy releases but the Queen’s Rising took me by surprise and had it not been for an ‘if you like this, try this…” recommendation I don’t think I would have known about it. We all know by now that YA Fantasy is one of my favourite genres ever and I will devour them all if I can do. It sounds really good, and in judging a book by its cover, the cover is rather pretty with all that gold and turquoise. I just hope it shines on the inside as well as the outside.
Have you read or heard anything about this book?
What are your thoughts? I would love to know!
As always, thanks for reading and have a brazzle dazzle day!
