Monthly Book Haul

Hello!

It has been over a week (I think) since I posted anything and I’ve actually been the better for it. There are those times when you need to take a step back from blogging, take care of yourself, and have a bit of a break. I know I’ve certainly needed it this month as life’s downs reared their ugly heads again, but there is also a lot to be said for writing all this out and using ones interests as an escape.

This month, the escapism that is books and literature hit me more in terms of book buying. I just have no self restraint!

Saying that, I’m really excited for all these books and I can’t wait to devour them.

First off, I received my third and final Fairyloot box today (for a while at least) and I am love.

September’s theme was “All That Sass” and I’ll admit right now that this is my favourite out of all the boxes I’ve received.

Items included:

– A beanie hat with the quote “rattle the stars” from Throne of Glass (you can just about see it in the top left corner as I didn’t manage to get it in frame)

– Tower of Dawn bookmark

  • Celaena Sardothian Fairyloot bookmark
  • HP Magnet saying “I solemnly swear I am up to no good.”
  • Hot Chocolate based off Percy Jackson (smells and tastes really good!) – It has some spices mixed in with the chocolate and it is perfect for cold, autumn nights.
  • A sandalwood and lavender candle called High Warlock, inspired by Magnus Bane from TID/TMI (it smells amazing!)
  • TID tote bag with a quote from Clockwork Angel: “there is plenty of sense in nonsense sometimes if you wish to look for it.” (my favourite item!)
  • A notepad (which you can just about see sticking out) with the quote “anything worth doing starts with a bad idea.”
  • A chapter sampler for The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue – I’ve been seeing a lot of hype around this book and though it’s not one I’m particularly interested in, I am intrigued to see if the hype is deserved or not.
  • Two prints, one of Captain Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles and the other of Lila Bard from the Shades of Magic trilogy.

The book featured in the box is Even The Darkest Stars by Heather Fawcett and even though I’ve just read something on Goodreads that would usually put me off this book, I’m looking forward to seeing what it is like. The Fairyloot magazine recommended it for fans of Shadow of Bone by Leigh Bardugo and as I love the Grisha Trilogy, I’m cautiously optimistic that it will be a book I like. It sounds like it is up my alley so we’ll just have to see.

There is also the usual swag that comes with the book like a letter from the author, a signed book plate

Moving away from Fairyloot, I bought/received 8 books this month. This doesn’t seem like a lot but for someone who is meant to be seriously cutting down on book buying, it is a lot. I blame both my self restraint and Waterstones’ constant buy-one-get-one-half-price offer.

Anyway, they are:

Beloved Poison and Dark Asylum by E.S Thomson – the first two books in a detective series based in Victorian London.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas – book 6 in the Throne of Glass series.
Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moira Fowley-Doyle

Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff – the sequel to Nevernight, which I have still not read.
Invictus by Ryan Graudin.

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman – this book was given to me by my best friend as she was unhauling it and I’d expressed an interest in Gaiman’s books.

I’m super excited about this haul because I’ve heard so many good things about a few of these books, and I’m hoping that they’re going to help me get back into the swing of reading and enjoying it.

And that seems to be it.

Whether this will be the first post in a long line of scheduled posts, I don’t really know. I’ll just have to see what happens.

Anyway…

Have you read any of these books?
What are your recommendations?
What books have you bought this month?

Thanks for reading and have a brazzle dazzle day!
xx

  1. That Fairyloot box looks amazing! Such cool stuff, especially that TID tote (we LOVE TID!) And we know you said that you are not super interested in it, but we did love The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and highly recommend that you give it a shot! And we have been wanting to read the Spellbook of the Lost and Found! It sounds so interesting! We can’t wait to hear what you think of it 🙂

    1. It really was my favourite box out of the three I’ve had. I love TID as well, in fact it is one of my favourite series so I am in love with the tote bag!

I’ve been interested in the Spellbook of Lost and Found ever since I first heard about it, so I can’t wait to dive into it. I hope it will be sooner rather than later.

  2. So many books!!!!! I hope you give The Gentleman’s Guide a chance! I really loved that book 😀 I also bought Tower of Dawn and kind of want to/don’t want to read the book just because I’m so over that whole series, but there’s only 2 books left!! Keen to hear your thoughts Emma 💕

    1. I’m wary about Tower of Dawn because I know I’m not the biggest fan of Chaol and it is mostly from his POV. Then again we are nearing the end and I’m curious to see how SJMaas wraps it all up. I’ve certainly come too far into the series not to give up now.

      1. Same here! I used to love him but now almost hate him – although that can be said for a lot of SJM’s characters. I really want to know how she wraps the series and that’s the only reason why I’ll read the book 😀
