When we read a particular book, there is always something about it that stays with us. Whether that be the story, the characters. the setting, and the quotes.
Over the last couple of months, I’ve noted down those that I love. Mainly because I know I’ll end up forgetting them to make room for something else in my brain, and I also like the idea of having a pretty notebook full of quotes.
Now I’m flicking through this notebook, I realise that all of them are bordering on the serious side, but those are the ones that make me think, make me open my eyes to the wider world.
Anyway, before I digress even further, here are some of the quotes I’ve been gathering for the last few months:
“Fiction is truth, even if it is not fact. If you believe only in facts and forget stories, your brain will live but your heart will die.” (Lord of Shadows, Cassandra Clare)
“It’s nice knowing she’s exploring with someone. She likes imagining who else walked where she is walking, or who else touched this exact spot. She likes imagining what that would have been thinking when they sat on this rock of climbed this tree or looked at this creek. She likes imagining what their lives are like. She likes imagining that some part of the person is still here, just a shadow of them, and that if she concentrates hard enough, then she could almost be that person.” (The Bone Sparrow, Zana Fraillon)
“She says if everyone would listen to the stories deep down inside the earth, we would hear the whisperings of everything there is to learn, and if everyone did that, then just maybe we wouldn’t all get stuck so much.” (The Bone Sparrow, Zana Fraillon)
“For the two of us, home isn’t a place. It is a person. And we are finally home.” (Anna and the French Kiss, Stephanie Perkins)
“I’m beginning to think that maybe it’s okay to be a blank canvas. Maybe it’s okay that my future is unknown. And maybe it’s okay to be inspired by the people who do know their future.” (Isla and the Happily Ever After, Stephanie Perkins)
On a side note, I seem to relate to this one a lot at the moment.
“Well, maybe you’re not that special, maybe you are – but that doesn’t actually mean anything, and it certainly doesn’t have any bearing on whether you can write. So stop worrying and do it.” (The Muse, Jessie Burton)
“When we hear a little good and no harm of a person, it is easy and pleasant to imagine more.” (Agnes Grey, Anne Brontë)
“She’d always liked the idea that there was a different you for every choice you made and every choice you didn’t” (Our Dark Duet, VE Schwab)
What are some quotes that you love at the moment?
Are there any that you relate to?
Thanks for reading and have a good day!
