T5W – Books That Took Ages To Read

Hi everyone.

Welcome to the first Top 5 Wednesday of October!

For those of you who are new to the online book community, Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group whereby we discuss books pertaining to a particular topic. These topics change every week and they’re a great way of finding new book recommendations and just discussing books with a lot of like-minded people.

Anyway, this week’s topic is ‘books that took you the longest to finish.’

I have a fair few of these so let’s get started:

I started reading this September of last year when it first came out, and I finished it this January. The Throne of Glass series is slow going for me anyway even though I really like it, but for me this fourth instalment dragged. I put it down to Manon’s chapters because they slowed down the pace and I wasn’t particularly interested in her. It was the book where I didn’t really know where SJ Maas was going with the story and I just found it easier to dip in and out of it when I felt like it.

So whilst I did read this within 4 days, it felt like I was reading this for much longer than that. Unlike others, the changing formats actually slowed me down and I was disinterested in the relationship between Kady and Ezra. However I am beginning to change my mind about this series because some of it was fun and I’m now curious about Gemina. If I do end up buying it, who knows how long that book will take me to read?

Similarly to Queen of Shadow it took me a good few months to finish this book. I can’t remember what made me put it down half way through but I just felt that I needed to take a break from it and then come back to it at a different time. I still loved it though.

I was 11 when this heftier HP book was first released and whilst I was reading many books back then, it would have taken me quite a while to get through this. I can’t remember exactly how long it took but it would have been at least a month or so.

In fact this entire series took me a while to read, but the last book was particularly chunky. It has been a few years since I read this and so I can’t quite remember how long it took me but it was slow going. I did enjoy it though.

And that’s it.

Thanks for reading and have a good day!

  1. I really loved Illuminae and while it didn’t take me very long to finish it either I too was very disinterested with Kady and Ezra’s relationship, it was probably the worst part of the book for me. I’ve also only read the first Throne of Glass book but it made my list this week because it took me a while to finish it and I feel like the rest of the series will be the same.
    Great list! 🙂
